Description
This is a nifty pottery dish (ashtray ?) from the Hotel Alois Lang, inOberammergau
,
Germany
. Besides being a decorative piece of art pottery, with a nifty squeezebag decoration of a rooster, the hotel that it came from has an interesting background. Alois Lang is famed for being one of the most notable men to play Jesus at the Oberammergau Passion Play. This hotel was named for him – he either owned or managed it. I believe the hotel is no longer. This piece is 5 9/16” at its widest, and marked on the bottom as shown. There are tiny glaze frits along the inside edge (some shown by red circles and lines in pics). The final pics show Mr. Lang, and the Hotel. They are not included in the auction. About color - finicky camera - the blues in the 8th pic (back closeup) are closest to the actual tones.
