German Souvenir Box with Reverse Printed Glass Lid, 1 5/8 inch diameter, marked on lid “Palmengarten Frankfurt A/M”, probably late 1800’s, damage to glass on lid with crack across lower section from left to right, minor chips to glass around rim, damage to image under glass at beginning of crack on left, box bottom is slightly bent and is off round, some spot oxidation to brass of lid frame and discoloration to brass, sepia photo of Siesmayer’s Actiengesellschaft at the Botanical Gardens of Frankfurt Germany, probably a souvenir of a visit during the period between 1868 and 1900, the image is printed on the back of the glass that forms the lid which is lined with tin on the inside, this metal matches that which forms the bottom and the sides of the box, on the outside is a decorative molded piece of white metal in a lacey pattern with a silvered finish, S curled piece of brass forms the catch, damaged but nice historical souvenir box.
